When humans eat too much junk food, an upset stomach is expected. And, if humans overeat, we become bloated and experience abnormal bowel movements.
Well, the same goes for dogs!
Unfortunately, many well-meaning owners are feeding junk food to their Goldendoodles every single day. Sometimes at every meal! This means that your Goldendoodles stomach problems are not going to fully resolve until you remove the junk from their diet.

How Much to Feed Your Goldendoodle Each Day
It can be challenging to determine how much to feed your Goldendoodle each day. Every Goldendoodle has different caloric needs due to their size, age, and activity level.
When determining how much to feed your Goldendoodle, it’s important to first determine their caloric needs.
According to VCA Animal Hospitals:
The standard formula used for calculating the energy requirements of the average adult dog that lives inside your home, receives light daily exercise, and is spayed or neutered is:
30 x weight in kg (or pounds divided by 2.2) + 70 = daily caloric needs
Here are some general feeding guidelines for Goldendoodles of various sizes-
Mini (between 14-17 inches tall and between 26-35 lbs)- between 410-547 calories per day,
Medium (between 17-21 inches tall and between 36-50 lbs)- between 560-752 calories per day
Standard (over 21 inches tall and over 51lbs)- between 765-956 calories per day

Your bag of kibble will offer approximate feeding amounts by volume (usually cups). We are going to instead calculate your Goldendoodle’s daily rations based on their caloric needs.
Based on the information above, you should have an idea of how many calories your Goldendoodle needs each day.
To determine how many cups of food your Goldendoodle needs per day, find out how many calories are in each cup of dog food. You can find this information listed on your dog food bag in the nutritional analysis.
Now, divide your Goldendoodle’s daily caloric requirement by the number of calories in one cup of your chosen dog food to find the correct serving size in cups.
Important: Your Goldendoodle’s daily serving size is the total amount they should eat per day. If you feed 2-3 meals per day, you need to split this total amount into smaller portions.
Keep in mind that dry kibble is very calorie-dense. This means that dry kibble has more calories per cup than fresh-cooked diets or raw diets. This is why it’s so important to know what your Goldendoodle’s daily caloric needs are!

How to Choose a High-Quality Dog Food
There are thousands of commercially available diets for dogs today. It can be a daunting task to choose a diet that is right for your Goldendoodle, your daily routine, and your budget.
Here are a few basic guidelines to keep in mind when shopping for the best food for your Goldendoodle-
Meat should be the first ingredient on the ingredient list.
The next two ingredients on the ingredient list should be meat and/or whole grains (wheat, corn, oats, barley, rice, etc.)
Legumes (beans, peas, alfalfa), squash (including pumpkin), and root vegetables (potatoes, sweet potatoes) should be very limited, but some are OK.
Choose a food that already contains probiotics. These are usually listed at the bottom of the ingredient list.
Dry kibble is a great option for Goldendoodle owners with busy schedules and limited fridge and freezer space because it is nutritionally complete and shelf-stable. Canned dog food is a great option for the same reasons.
Fresh-cooked diets are a great option for Goldendoodle owners who have space in their fridge and freezer. To ensure that a fresh-cooked diet is nutritionally complete, check that the food is labeled as meeting AFFCO or WSAVA guidelines. If the food does not meet these guidelines, you will need to supplement your dog’s diet with additional vitamins and minerals to avoid deficiencies. The same goes for raw diets.

Healthy Treats for Goldendoodles
Your Goldendoodle does not need commercially available treats (think “milk bones”) or table scraps for a balanced, healthy diet.
This concept is difficult for some Goldendoodle owners to cope with, but it’s a reality. If you feed your Goldendoodle excessive treats and junk food, you are putting their long-term health at risk.
Here are a few of my favorite healthy treats for Goldendoodles-
Raw Fresh Blueberries - These sweet little treats are full of antioxidants and their small size makes them a great healthy treat option because they won’t contribute to overfeeding.
Raw Fresh Carrots - Whole carrots are best, but baby carrots are fine. Raw carrots are excellent for cleaning your Goldendoodle’s teeth! They are high in fiber and make for a great gut supplement, not to mention they are full of other vitamins and minerals.
Canned Sardines in Water - Avoid sardines canned in brine or oil, these are not good for Goldendoodles. Sardines in water are a nutrient dense healthy treat for Goldendoodles, full of protein and Omega 3 fatty acids. Only feed 1 small sardine per day.
Raw or Gently Cooked Egg - I like to put a raw egg on top of my Goldendoodle’s kibble a few meals per week. The healthy protein and fat in eggs make eggs a great healthy treat for Goldendoodles. If you prefer to cook the egg before feeding, I recommend boiling. A fried egg will have too much oil and cause stomach issues.

Parasites and Gut Health
Parasites are everywhere. Parasites are commonly referred to as “worms.” They live inside every animal.
You can't prevent exposure to parasites (worms)--please don't try! Parasite exposure is unavoidable for your Goldendoodle. Goldendoodles love smelling the ground, licking and chewing on things that they find outside, and interacting with other dogs and animals. These are all ways that parasites are transmitted.
Symptoms of Parasite Overload in Goldendoodles
Parasites that call the digestive tract home will wreak havoc on your Goldendoodle’s digestive system when there is a parasite overload.
Symptoms of parasite overload in the gut include-
Diarrhea and vomiting
Diarrhea with blood
Weight loss
Lethargy
Eventually, your Goldendoodle will become anemic, and the parasite overload will begin to cause serious health problems.
How to Diagnose Parasite Overload in Goldendoodles
A veterinarian must diagnose parasite overload. To determine if your dog has parasites, your vet will need a stool sample. The vet will examine the sample or send it to a lab to make a final diagnosis and then prescribe an appropriate deworming medication.

Keeping parasites at bay requires regular preventative treatment for the life of your Goldendoodle. This is a normal part of pet ownership. Don’t wait until your Goldendoodle is ill to seek treatment!
I have good news! You can keep parasites from harming your dog using an affordable at-home treatment.
In fact, I believe that every single dog owner should follow this treatment protocol. Twice yearly, once in the Spring and once in the Fall, is the best cadence for this protocol.

Here are some general guidelines-
Mini Goldendoodles (between 26-35 lbs)- 1 green box of Panacur C (treats 20lbs) + 1 yellow box of Panacur C (treats 10 pounds), feed one packet from each box once daily for three days in a row

Panacur C (fenbendazole) is a very safe drug. Don’t worry about giving a little bit too much. But, if you give too little, you will not kill all of the parasites in your Goldendoodle’s gut.
You must give the correct minimum dose (daily dose) of Panacur C to your Goldendoodle once a day for three days in a row for it to be effective. This treatment routine should be performed every six months for the life of your Goldendoodle.
If Giardia is common in your environment, and if your dog has suffered from Giardia infection in the past, increase the treatment from three days in a row to five days in a row.
